Conference Facilities - Caledon Villa ( Conference Venues in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa )
We have conference facilities for 8 to 10 persons. However, we make these available in conjunction with accommodation only. Thus, delegates sleep here, have their breakfast, go to our lounge [which can be isolated from the rest of the guest house] for their meeting, be served tea and refreshments there, have lunch on our terrace, continue their meeting and adjourn in the afternoon. The duration of their stay is of their choice. Our lounge has a long yellowwood table and chairs with a special ambience. From experience we know that such groups prefer to bring their own conference equipment. A projector screen would be made available if this is needed. Toilet facilities are obviously also available. This facility is made available for our own guests only and no other accommodation is included.

Conference Venue - Caledon Villa ( Conference Venues in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa )
HISTORY OF CALEDON VILLA
The first owner of Caledon Villa was Koos Krige, member of one of the oldest families in Stellenbosch. While most of his 11 brothers followed the family tradition and became wine farmers, Koos studied and thereafter entered the ministry of the Dutch Reformed Church. He spent 30 years serving the congregation at Caledon and on retirement, returned to his home town and to his new house in Neethling Street.

Koos was the grandfather of two of the best known Kriges in South Africa - Uys the poet and writer and François the painter.

Even at that age, some 4 or 5 of the family's 11 children were still studying at the local university and therefore the Villa was planned and built with many rooms. After his widow died, the house was sold and another family lived there for 60 years before it was purchased by the present owners.

THE HOUSE
Caledon Villa was built in 1912 in the architectural style of the Edwardian Era and due to its exceptional beauty, it has been declared a National Monument. It was originally planned to provide for a very large family and fortunately so, because today it still has many rooms, enough for the descendants of the same family and for many guests !

Apart from being the home of the Kriges, the facilities for guests have been gradually expanded since 1992 to accommodate a maximum of 25 visitors. These are provided for in three single rooms, nine double rooms, one studio and one suite. All rooms have en suite bathrooms.

Each room has been decorated individually, most of them with furniture matching the period 1880 to 1930. Many of the older pieces are family heirlooms and with the high ceilings and beautiful fire places, many visitors describe the interior as a museum in usage. It is obvious that Ode has been very successful in creating a homeliness with her interior design of each room.

STELLENBOSCH
The charm and beauty of Stellenbosch is well-known to visitors. It has retained a historical character in its buildings and streets, lined by water furrows and oak trees. It is also the centre of the Cape Winelands and is surrounded by mountains and valleys. Golf courses, beaches, the Cape Peninsula and Cape Town can all be easily reached on daily outings. Being a University town, there are many young people around, a factor contributing to the unique atmosphere of Stellenbosch.

LOCATION
Neethling Street has its own attractions and truly represents Stellenbosch in its diversity of cultural and natural assets. Situated at its northern end is the Conservatorium of Music which has regular concerts. At its other extremity lies the winding Eerste River with ample walking and jogging options. Between these two landmarks are the Botanical Gardens and a number of Victorian and Edwardian houses, among which Caledon Villa stands out as a gem from its era.

Most of the recommended restaurants are within 5 minutes walking distance and guests can therefore enjoy their dinner and their wine without the need to drive home.
