Shamwari Game Reserve is situated in the verdant
bush along the Bushmans River, halfway between Port Elizabeth
and Grahamstown a pleasant drive from Cape Town, forming a natural
extension to the famous Garden Route. Shamwari is about conserving
a vanishing way of life. Steeped in Pioneer history, and dating
back to the time when a multitude of game roamed wild and free,
the reserve boasts five eco-systems, thus enabling the support
of many forms of plant, animal and bird life. This is the ultimate
African adventure and conservation effort coupled with responsible
tourism. Luxury accommodation is offered on 7 different lodges on
the reserve. Long Lee Manor, offerings a distinctive Colonial
experience. Lovingly restored and expanded, this gracious Edwardian
mansion offers refined elegance from a bygone era. Bushmans River
Lodge is a unique historical site with its 4 suites decorated
in an artistic African theme. The lodge offers personal ranger
service and has its own chef. There is a delightful plunge pool
and a thatched gazebo overlooking the Bushmans River below.
Riverdene Lodge is a restored settler's lodge with 9 suites, all
en-suite with air-conditioning, Satellite TV, telephone and small
lounge area. The public areas consist of two elegantly furnished
casual lounges and a glorious sunroom, a rim flow swimming pool
with sun deck and poolside bar. The ethnically decorated Lobengula
Lodge with its thatched roofs is tucked deep in the valley bushveld.
It offers 12 guests a tranquil, luxurious and exclusive getaway
as well as a wellness centre. Bayethe Lodge is a 5-star, luxury
lodge comprising of 9-tented suites. A magnificent bushveld-type
lodge made of stonewalls and thatch, accommodates the lounge,
dining room, an outdoor banquet boma, swimming pool and viewing
deck overlooking the Buffalo River, a tributary to the great Bushmans
River. Eagles Crag is nestled in a valley and provides ultimate
luxury for the most discerning of travellers. Each of the nine
superior rooms are designed to maximise the privacy of the guest
in the most tranquil surroundings. The luxury spa offers a wide
variety of personalised treatments. The Lodge houses the dining
area, library, business centre, lounge & bar. Shamwari's highly
trained game rangers, with skilled service staff will ensure a
memorable adventure, personalised to your needs.

With African travel becoming a family affair, Shamwari Game Reserve will open Sarili, a new luxury lodge exclusively for families soon.
An environmentally friendly private African thatch designed villa with a spacious deck overlooking the Bushman’s River with expansive views of the plains, the lodge is positioned in the southern region of the Reserve. The décor emulates an old traditional farmhouse with interiors that reflect an easy living home lifestyle in a natural environment.
The lodge consists of five suites and can sleep a maximum of ten (10) guests. The lodge features a child friendly swimming pool, dining and lounge areas, courtyard barbeque area and special children’s menu. Child minders are available at an additional cost.
Shamwari offers a special “Kids on Safari” programme where kids aged 4 and older have a chance of a lifetime to view the Big 5, view a special educational film and visit the Born Free Foundation and Shamwari Wildlife Rehabilitation Center The luxury spa offers a wide variety of personalised treatments.
