Accommodation Venue - The Fernery Lodge
& Chalets ( Bed and Breakfast, Guest Houses
Accommodation in Tsitsikamma / Eastern Cape / South Africa )
The Tsitsikamma, named from a Khoisan word meaning
"Place of many waters", is situated at the base of the
mysterious Tsitsikamma Mountains. It is characterised by its many
rivers, including the Storms, Bloukrans, Bobbejaan and Groot Rivers,
coursing their way to the ocean through spectacular gorges. The
Tsitsikamma is home to vast areas of indigenous forest, large
pine plantations, and great expanses of Fynbos found nowhere else
in the world! It is also the setting of the world-famous Tsitsikamma
National Park, the first proclaimed marine national park in Africa,
and the start of the famous Otter Trail.
The Fernery Chalets are situated on Langebosch Farm, the premises
of Forest Ferns. Forest Ferns is an environmentally friendly and
sustainable fern harvesting and cultivation industry which has
grown up around the forests of the Tsitsikamma. For 18 years this
company has been exporting ferns and foliage to the European flower
markets.
Built for the luxury Dolphin Hiking Trail the 8 chalets at Forest
Ferns are set in fynbos along the Sandrif River and offer the
perfedt country retreat. Each spacious B&B or self catering
chalet has a unique theme to blend in with the environment, and
is individually decorated and equipped for a luxury, though informed
and relaxed, stay.
We are able to cater for a variety of needs and offer either
an adventure-filled holiday break, or a tranquil setting for relaxing,
walking and bird watching. This is also an ideal venue for team
building and conferencing groups.
For the active guests we have 6 mountain bikes for hire, walking,
jogging and cycling trails on and around the farm as well as rowing
boats on the dam. Those feeling really adventurous may go bungy
jumping from the Bloukrans River Bridge, black water tubing down
the Storms River Gorge, abseiling or swinging in the tree tops
on a canopy tour. There are also a number of beautiful hiking
trails in the area.
For those seeking peaceful activities we offer 4x4 forest drives,
picnics and birdwatching. Of course, it is also acceptable to
do precisely nothing at all, other than relax. This is possible
either in the privacy of your chalet, or at the swimming pool
and sauna facility, which for cold and rainy days offers a cosy
indoor fireplace and lounge.
