Rock Lodge is situated within the scenic mountain
wonderland of Giant's Castle Game Reserve and boasts magnificent
uninterrupted views of the slumbering giant and great wall of
the Drakensberg mountains. Giant's Castle takes its name from
the massive ramparts of rock rising above the lodge - the silhouette
of the peaks and escarpment against the sky resemble the profile
of a sleeping giant. The lodge includes a sumptuous lounge with
satellite television, dining room and kitchen. This is the ideal
place for those wanting to enjoy a sense of secluded privacy in
the midst of scenic mountain splendour. The moody mountain peaks,
often wreathed in cloud and mist in the heat of a summer's day
are transformed in winter, where they stand etched against the
blue African sky, with peaks often covered in a thick mantle of
snow. The lodge itself boasts three sumptuous en-suite bedrooms,
one of which is built around a massive rock which takes centre
stage, an opulent lounge and dining room with doors that open
onto exquisite vistas of the encircling mountains. A unique vulture
hide allows visitors to watch the bearded vulture and other endangered
raptor species feeding during the winter months, and the Main
Caves have magnificent San rock art panels, providing a glimpse
into the lives of these vanished people. Fly fishing is a very
popular activity at Giant's Castle where fishermen are invited
to enjoy 15 kilometers of superb trout waters, while hikers can
undertake overnight trails and day walks and birders can look
out for the over 170 recorded birds species in the reserve.A resident
cook prepares excellent meals with food supplied by the guests.
A Alternatively a fully catered option is available either at
the restaurant or at the lodge.
