Accommodation Venue - Fani's Island Camp( Game Lodges & Resorts Accommodation in St. Lucia Wetlands Park / Kwazulu-Natal / South Africa
Named after a local Zulu headman who would portage visitors camping equipment to the island in the pioneering days, Fani's Island is a wonderfully peaceful haven nestled far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Situated in a beautiful coastal lake setting on the Western Shores of Lake St Lucia, this small, secluded camp provides an excellent base for bird-watchers. Due to the introduction of elephants to the western shores of Lake St Lucia self guided trails are no longer available to the public because of safety considerations.
The lake is a fisherman's paradise, with grunter, perch, kob and shad being caught regularly. Bait can be purchased at the camp and freezer facilities are available. The camp has one seven-bed cottage with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lounge/dining room and kitchen with barbecue facilities and 12 two-bed rest huts served by two central kitchens and an ablution block.
Adjacent to the main camp are a number of camping sites and the days can be spent relaxing at a swimming pool available to all guests, or taking part in the various activities around the camp. A basic conference facility seating 50 delegates situated at the lakeside is also available. Fani's Island campsite has 28 large shady sites that can accommodate tents or caravans with shared coldwater taps and barbecue facilities. The campsites are electrified with plug points. The ablution facilities have hot and cold running water, flush toilets and showers. The nearby Fani's Island Camp features chalet accommodation, a swimming pool and a shop for the convenience of guests.
