This African Colonial style lodge caters for the
discerning nature lover, and its unique position on a ridge overlooking
the Pongola River commands panoramic views of the reserve. It
is the ideal place in which to relax and enjoy regular sightings
of Hippopotamus, Crocodile and the many species of general game
that are found in the reserve.
Directions to accommodation
The reserve is 450km from Johannesburg and 350km from Durban.
From Johannesburg:
Travel south to Pongola via Ermelo and Piet Retief. Continue through
Pongola on the N2 for +/- 30 kms.Mvubu, Inyati and Fish Eagle
Safari Boat guests turn left off the N2 at the Golela Border Post
sign and continue for 4kms to the Pongola Game Reserve North entrance
on the right. Sondaba, Mhlozi, Mpalane & Nkwazi guests do
not turn onto the Golela road but continue on the N2 for 1km past
the Pongola River and turn right at the Pongola Game Reserve Leeukop
entrance.
From Durban:
T ake the N2 northwards, bypassing Stanger, Empangeni, Mtubatuba,
Hluhluwe and Mkuze. Sondaba, Mhlozi, Mpalane & Nkwazi guests
turn left at the Pongola Game Reserve Leeukop entrance +/- 35kms
past Mkuze. Mvubu, Inyati and Fish Eagle Safari Boat guests continue
past the Pongola Game Reserve Leeukop entrance for 3 kms and turn
right at the Golela Border Post sign and continue for 4kms to
the Pongola Game Reserve North entrance on the right.
Accommodation Facilities
Accommodation is in 9 twin and 2 single en suite chalets
all with air conditioning, ceiling fans, mini bar fridges, tea
and coffee facilities and private verandas. The chalets combine
comfort and simplicity with architectural use of stone, wood,
reeds and thatch. The central area of the lodge
includes the Hippo Hole bar, TV lounge with DSTV, covered open
plan lounge and dining area, boma, swimming pool and curio shop.
Rates include Dinner, Bed and Breakfast/Brunch, tea and
coffee. Private boat launching and jetty facilities
are available. Mobile Network coverage - MTN, Vodacom & Cell
C. Children over 12 are welcome. No pets allowed.
