Matlabas Game Lodge is about 350 kms from Johannesburg
and Pretoria, hidden away in lush bushveld on the banks of the
Matlabas River just a few kilometers upstream from the confluence
with the "... great, grey, green, greasy Limpopo River".
This is typical bushveld country: game rich and covered with camelthorn,
knobthorn, black monkey thorn, red bushwillow, leadwood and many
others.
Time spent at Matlabas Game Lodge is all about getting away from
city life, bright lights, traffic and stress. It is about peace
and tranquility, clean fresh air and clear skies with the brightest
stars you have probably seen. It is time for being quiet and a
time to listen to the jackal calling at night and to birds such
as the Redcrested Korhaan, Crested Francolin, Swainson's Francolin,
Double banded and Burchell's Sandgrouse, etc, etc. In short: it's
about hakuna matata, chilling out and taking life easy. Matlabas
Game Lodge consist of a thatched lodge with four rooms, rondavel
and two safari tents, accommodating a total of 14 people comfortably,
or up to a maximum of 18 sharing. Two of the rooms in the lodge,
the rondavel and the tents all have en-suite bathrooms, while
the remaining two rooms in the lodge share a bathroom. Other features
include: Seperate lounge with Satelite TV (DSTV) and unique wildlife
and natural history video library, swimming pool, fully equiped
kitchen, daily cleaning services and laundry services. Some of
the regular visitors to the camp include nyalas and warthogs,
which are always a pleasure to watch. The Campsite: A campsite,
under some lovely black monkey thorn trees, is available to the
self-sufficient who wish to sleep out in the bush. The campsite
has running water, a toilet and a shower. Firewood is provided.
Directions to accommodation
Matlabas Game Lodge is situated in the Limpopo Province on the
banks of the Matlabas River, roughly 320 km from Johannesburg
/ Pretoria. We are also conveniently situated on the road between
Thabazimbi and the Stockpoort / Parr's Halt border post, for travellers
to and from Botswana
