and watch the setting sun paint the rugged cliffs of the surrounding
mountains in shades of pink, mauve and gold.
Travel information… We enjoy assisting guests in their
travel plans, and will help them find the most scenic routes and
interesting places to visit. We have extensive maps of the area,
and brochures on various activities. Having travelled the area
extensively, first-hand information is available for those who
require it.
The milieu...our location in Montagu is truly unrivalled and
the views are magnificent. The Langeberg mountains form a spectacular
backdrop to the village that nestles in the valley. Although you
will enjoy a view of the village and the mountains, you are just
a short walk from the centre of town.
About Montagu
Village of the Year… Montagu was voted as "Engen Village
of the Year - 2002", something of which we are very proud.
Our natural hot springs attract tourists from afar, who come to
soak in the hot mineral baths. We are at the heart of the scenic
Route 62, adjacent to the fertile Koo and Keisie valleys where
fruit of all varieties abound. The area also boasts excellent
wine cellars. Whether your taste is for a sweet muscadel, or for
a spicy shiraz, you won't have to look far.
The Karoo… Montagu, situated in what is known as the succulent
Karoo, is well-known for its nature garden, where an astounding
variety of vygies splash out in spectacular colour during the
spring months. The good quality rock structures of the Langeberg
mountains challenge local and overseas rock climbers.
Yesterday, today and tomorrow… historic buildings, including
numerous national monuments, grace the streets. Museums rub shoulders
with res-taurants and interesting shops. Whether you are into
trendy or traditional, we have it all! Relax at one of the coffee
shops, browse through the arts and crafts, visit the handicraft
market, sample our dried fruit, taste the local wine, enjoy an
evening of classical music, or just soak in the beauty and tranquillity
of a typical Little Karoo town.
The Weather… very pleasant. Winter days are generally crystal
clear and mild, with a low rainfall, although we are in the winter
rainfall region. As the saying goes, you are only 2 hours from
summer (if you come from a wet and wintry Cape Town). Summers
are hot and dry, but mostly with a cool evening breeze.
