ATTRACTIONS IN THE AREA
Oudtshoorn is the principle town of the Little Karoo, founded
on the late 1850’s. It is situated between the majestic
Outeniqua and Swartberg mountains of the Southern Cape. Oudtshoorn
achieved its fame as the ostrich feather capital of the world
in the late 1800’s, when ostrich feathers became the height
of fashion in Europe. Even though the industry suffered a major
decline after the First World War, due to the changes in fashion,
the industry is a present going through a major revival with the
renewed demand for feathers, meat and leather. The area also boasts
the magnificent natural beauty of the Cango Caves.
Oudtshoorn is an ideal base for exploring the many interesting
