Ebbie and Geesje welcome you to their Italian influenced home.
Sweeping views of the Langeberg mountain, a large salt water pool,
private cottages, each decorated in a unique style and true South
African hospitality are only a few of the things guests can enjoy
at Babette's.
The name Babette's is inspired by that lovely art film, "Babette"s
Feast" and if you have seen that movie, you will know what
we are about. At Babette's we do not only serve scrumptious breakfasts,
but also a picture on
a plate to indulge all the senses.
The same applies to the house and cottages. Lovely old wooden
beams, doors and windows, eclectic furnishings and special artworks
in every room, welcome guests. Meet our friendly and loyal staff,
our dogs and our children. We're all a big family here and hope
to make you feel part of it.
A private lounge/ TV room/ library is available exclusively to
guests. All cottages are equipped with: private patio,separate
bathroom, lounge area, bar fridge, tea tray, fans and heaters,
hair dryers and sound system for
those lazy sunny afternoons. We offer one cottage with self catering
facilities in the evening for those who want to stay a couple
of days.
Swellendam's famous landmarks like the Museum and Dutch Reformed
Church are anly only a short walk away, as are excellent reastaurants
and art and craft shops. Do remember that Swellendam is a very
safe town, we don't even lock our doors at night. Once you've
discovered ou pretty and peaceful town, you'd always want to come
back.
Stay longer and visit the Robertson wine route - not as well
known as the Stellenbosch wine route and therefore you can buy
excellent wines at a very affordable price. Go for walks in the
Merloth Nature Reserve, or visit the
Bontebok park, the only one of it's kind in SA. De Hoop Nature
Reserve is by far the best place for whale watching, bird life
and peace and quiet.
Interesting towns to visit close by, are Suurbraak, Barrydale
and Montague via the beautiful Tradouws pass, or visit the most
Southern point of Africa, while spending time in Arniston - the
most beautiful beach in the world.
Feel like playing a game of gholf? Don't miss our 9 hole course
nestling at the foot of the mountain - a memorable experience.
Why not take a sunset cruise on the Buffeljags dam and experience
the waterfall, or if you're feeling more adventurous, enjoy all
kinds of water sports in a fun way. Convinced that Swellendam

Directions to accommodation
Swellendam is about a two hours drive east of Cape Town.
The distance to George is about 240 km.
From the direction of Cape Town:
- On the N2, take the turnoff ‘Swellendam east’. This
turnoff is past the turnoffs ‘Swellendam-industrial’
and ‘Swellendam west/R60’.
- In Swellendam you take the first street on your left (‘Drostdy
Street’), just after you have passed the Drostdy Museum
on your left.
- Babette’s Guest House is on your right hand side: number
13 Drostdy Street.
From the direction of Knysna / George / Mosselbay:
- On the N2, take the turnoff ‘Swellendam east’.
- In Swellendam you take the first street on your left (‘Drostdy
Street’), just after you have passed the Drostdy Museum
on your left.
- Babette’s Guest House is on your right hand side: number
13 Drostdy Street.
