in Arniston; the beautiful Arniston Bay; the magical fishing village
of Kassiesbaai; the Overberg in the Western Cape and South Africa.
Southwinds is the only TGCSA Graded; AA Quality Assured and Portfolio
Accredited B&B in Arniston. It is also a member of the National
Accommodation Association, The Cape Overberg Meander and The Cape
Agulhas Tourism Bureau.
Southwinds is located 200m away from the historic harbour and
fishing village of Kassiesbaai and the turquoise coloured Indian
Ocean. Southwinds is built around a sunny secluded garden courtyard
within sight, sound and smell of the Ocean.

The Hottentots Holland Mountains form a spectacular boundary
between Cape Town and the Overberg. The N2 highway from “…
the fairest Cape in the World...”, over the spectacular
Sir Lowry’s mountain pass, provides a relaxing 2 hour drive
to Arniston and the southern tip of the “land over the Berg”.
Clarence Drive offers an alternative 3 hour coastal route via
Gordon’s Bay and Hermanus.
Arniston is the only town in South Africa with 2 official names.
The English name Arniston derived from a British East Indiaman
that was run aground with the tragic loss of 370 lives by its
Captain, in an attempt to save the Ship on the 30th of May 1815
and the Afrikaans name Waenhuiskrans derived from a large erosion
formed sea cave. Kassiesbaai is the name of the traditional fishing
village and harbour that is now a National monument.
The Overberg is the home of the Southern Right whale, ancient
rock fish traps, the rare blue crane, the endangered Bontebok,
a graveyard of ship wrecks, the heart of the Cape Fynbos, Die
Hoop and Die Mond nature reserves, the southern tip of the continent
of Africa, the longest stretch of uninterrupted pristine white
beach in the southern hemisphere and huge wind formed sand dune
systems.
All our comfortable en-suite double bedrooms have their own secure
entrance and sunny terrace or balcony that looks onto our main
garden or Ocean. Each bed boasts handmade pure Goose down duvets
and pillows all covered with handmade Percale cotton linen. All
bedrooms have tea and filter coffee facilities, antique furniture,
ceiling fans, electric blankets, heaters, hair driers, toiletries,
towels and clock radios.
Our traditional South African buffet breakfast caters for all
tastes and is served in the open plan dining area, tastefully
furnished with antique furniture. There is an open-plan guest
living area with a fireplace and satellite TV. Garage parking
available.
