Situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands, Landskroon has a proud tradition going back to the 17th century. In 1874, the De Villiers family, who are of French Huguenot extraction, acquired the farm and it is still managed as a private operation by the family to this day.

he wine making tradition at Landskroon dates back to the 17th century when the French Huguenots settlers came to the Cape. Among the newcomers was Jacques de Villiers, a wine maker from Niort in France. In 1874 his great-grandson, Paul, bought a portion of the original Landskroon farm that had been granted to a free burger by governor Simon van der Stel in 1692.

The Farm landskroon today comprises more than 600 hectares with vineyards covering nearly 300 hectares.

The estate is managed as a private, family operation and owned by the families of brothers Paul and Hugo de Villiers. Five members of the family are involved in the running of the farm on a full-time basis. The current wine maker, Paul de Villiers, junior, is the fifth generation to carry on this proud tradition at Landskroon.

Viniculture eventy percent of the vineyards at Landskroon consist of red wine cultivars, about ten percent of Port varieties and the balance of white wine cultivars. The red wine varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Pinotage and Cinsaut. The Port cultivars are Tinta Barocca, Tinta Roriz, Souzâo and Touriga Nacional, while the white wine varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Morio Muscat.

Approximately fifteen hectares of the vineyards are renewed annually. Currently, new plantings concentrate on Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Landskroon cottage caters for tourists to the Western Cape. Our close proximity to the towns of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek, makes this is an ideal base from which to explore the famed Cape winelands. With the city of Cape Town only 40 minutes away, it is a tranquil retreat after a day spent in this world renowned tourist destination.

The cottage can sleep four: it has a double bed plus a double sleeper couch. The bedroom has a bathroom en suite with both bath and shower. Additionally, there is a guest toilet. The Landskroon cottage has all conveniences to make your stay pleasurable. It is equipped with a stove, microwave oven, laundry facilities, telephone and TV and is serviced daily. To facilitate the great South African tradition of a braai, we have provided both an indoor and an outdoor barbecue.

Directions to accommodation
We are an easy, 45-minute drive from central Cape Town along the N1 highway.
Follow the N1 (North) form the city in the direction of Paarl. Before getting to Paarl, take the R44 off-ramp at exit 47 and go north.

Should you be coming to us from the airport or from Cape Town's Southern Suburbs, take the N2 toward Somerset West and either take the R310 at exit 33, or, take the R44 at exit 43. Both of these routes will take you through Stellenbosch.

If you are travelling along the R101, the turnoff is at Simonsvlei. Your route takes you over the N1 highway.
