After 10 years of living in Western Zambia, owners
Gavin and Penny Johnson have the experience to offer a unique
experience of the true African wilderness. Enjoy the privacy of
your luxury bush tent (with en-suite bathroom) on its own teak
deck. From your patio, relax under the shade of massive indigenous
trees with the mighty Zambezi River flowing beneath you.
There's lots to do with guided bird watching and wildlife walks,
angling and visits to local cultural and scenic pleasure spots.
A sunset cruise completes your day and then it's onto dinner served
in the boma around the campfire.
The Lodge also offers one-of-a-kind, fly-in safaris for wildlife
and bird watchers, fishing enthusiasts, and those wanting to experience
the authentic culture of Africa.
Situated on the western bank of the great Zambezi River, Mutemwa
Lodge caters for 12 guests in luxurious tented accommodation.
Your every need is met by a staff of 22.
Each tent is atop a teak deck with patio, ensuring a stunning,
completely private view of the Zambezi. Each guest suite has a
full bathroom, and sleeps two in either single or luxury queen-size
beds.
Meals are substantial and home cooked - with freshly caught local
fish and game being popular choices. Dinner is "al fresco"
around the campfire in the boma. Enjoy a lazy champagne breakfast
on the beach. Lunch is often served on the lower deck overlooking
the Zambezi, in the shade of the riverine forest.
The central area of the thatched lodge consists of a fully stocked
bar, indoor dining room and curio shop.
Directions to accommodation
BY AIR
Nationwide Airlines fly from Johannesburg directly to Livingstone,
then a charter flight from Livingstone to Mutemwa.
Mutemwa Lodge has its own airstrip - 1 000m grass surface. (Co-ordinates:
E24°00' 150 : S17° 03' 280).
Private charter flights can also be arranged.
BY ROAD
The Lodge is accessible by road, 250km upriver from Livingstone.
The Lodge offers a road transfer from Katima Mulilo, in comfortable
4x4 vehicles.
From Livingstone take the Kazungula/Sesheke Road (200 of tar
road to the new bridge, then 50km of dirt road on the western
bank to Mutemwa
From Johannesburg, head north on the N1. At Potgietersrus turn
left to Martin's Drift border post
Enter Botswana, drive to Francistown, Nata, Kasane.
Continue through Chobe Game Reserve to Ngoma border post.
Drive through the Namabian Caprivi Strip to Katima Mulilo. At
Katima cross the border post into Zambia.
Drive 50km - the Lodge is signposted.
